May

A magic evening from may 26 2007 (2)Image by Per Ola Wiberg (Powi) via Flickr

I love the month of May, when the days are growing longer, the flowers are out and the trees are in leaf. It just feels such a positive time of the year. Also it is not too hot for any activities like walking. Today is a case in point - dry and sunny with a breeze to stop it from becoming too hot. The bluebells are out, the swallows are flying around and it's just great to be alive.

Humour

Laughter HealsImage by Proggie via Flickr

It's wonderful how humour can lift the mood if it is down. I sometimes wonder how we would manage at all if we didn't have the ability to laugh, both at ourselves on occasions and with others. Of course some kinds of humour are quite hurtful whilst others are just innocent fun.

Driving

I really love driving. Living where I do, in a beautiful rural area, driving is often a pleasure especially outside of the peak tourist season. Even if it's only a quick drive to town or to an appointment, we are blessed with a beautiful environment and ususally not too much traffic. The only problem can be getting stuck behind a tractor on a narrow windy land when it's not possible to overtake.

Hope

Hope springs eternalImage by Pandiyan via Flickr

It occurred to me today what a frail but wonderful emotion hope was. It can always be there in the background - the hope that something in your life will improve, an important door open. Without it everything would be so flat, so despondent. With some hope in your life it's possible to keep going, to allow positive changes to occur in the future.

Painting

Description unavailableImage by y-its-mom via Flickr

I have phases of various activities. A few years ago I did a lot of painting and found that it was simultaneously wonderful and frustrating. Wonderful when I could paint a picture that I wanted to do in the manner I wished to express myself but frustrating when I could look at an object and not manage to transfer its likeness to paper (I never made it to canvas and stuck to watercolour and pastels). What impressed itself on my mind most in that time is the need to acquire the skill of really looking at something before attempting to sketch it. It really is not as easy as it seems and often takes several attempts to really look at what is in front of you. I also think that a good writer has the ability to paint with words the textures of landscapes and characters in a manner that gives them all depth.

Music, I find is similar. To make it work you have to be able to really listen to understand its harmony and depth.

Perception of Time

Personifications of Perception (seen here) and...Image via Wikipedia

I've just read an article that posits the opinion that time might not exist. Simultaneously I both agree and disagree with it. Our perception of time could be very much linked with our psychological apparatus and the linear processing that it requires to perceive, think and act on our environment. This lapse in the processing could be very much what we perceive as 'time'. But equally change occurs regularly in our natural environment as plants and ourselves age and grow. There is a logical sequence which all life follows even if it is at different rates according the to species. How is that to be defined other than by the concept of time?

Time Off

Time for a restImage by ...-Wink-... via Flickr

Yesterday, because of a combinations of circumstances I decided to take the day off. No instrument practice and no computers. It was strangely relaxing. Am trying to get back into the flow again today.
