Cathedral
Wooden trunks extend
Like huge columns
Up to the sky
As if supporting it
With their delicate
Traceries of branches
And leaves.
A cathedral to nature.

Blue Tits
Image by Mostly Dans via FlickrThey come into the garden
A pair at a time,
One eats while the other
Watches for danger.
Then they swop over
So both can eat
Before they fly away.

Surfing and Life
Image via WikipediaSometimes the cycles of life remind me of surfing. There are those gorgeous moments when everything seems easy and works first time, inspiration flows and creativity is abundant. For me that would be the equivalent of catching a wave just right and surfing back to the shore - full of excitement and joy. Then there are the other cycles where everything seems much harder to accomplish and more effort is required to reach where you are keen to go. This would be the paddling out to sea, in surfing terms, meeting the waves coming against you and then continuing on until you reach that right position to wait for that perfect wave . . . I had the surfing feeling earlier this year at the beginning of last month but recently it has definitely felt more like paddling out to sea to find that perfect wave . . Still I know that I will get there sometime, and then there's that glorious ride back into the shore . . .
