My son recently had his hair cut off for Comic Relief and I sponsored him for this. Comic Relief is one of the most famous charities where celebrities contribute their time and effort which raises a substantial amount of money. Basically it's a high profile charity.

For myself, I prefer to support the smaller charities who don't have such a high profile and, I feel, probably need the money quite as much as the larger ones to undertake their work. I'm a staunch supporter of the RNLI, living where I do, and where people risk their lives to rescue others who become stranded or shipwrecked at sea.
