Saturday

The Cat of ApathyImage by KateMonkey via Flickr

Today has been hard work, I have to admit. I've had very little energy to do anything at all and everything seems like a struggle. I didn't know until just now whether I could even write anything today, I felt so tired and apathetic. I find days like this very hard to deal with. If I try to ignore the tiredness I get stressed with getting on with the normal routine and if I take it easy and try and relax I keep thinking of all those other jobs I should be doing.

Oh well- I'll probably be fine tomorrow. And the day wasn't a total washout. I did attend a choral rehearsal this morning and have actually managed to write - so that can't be all bad can it?

Winter and Hibernation

Winter Solstice sunset_S02049Image by Ennor via Flickr

Another wet and windy day in Cornwall unfortunately. It seems that so far this week Wednesday was the only good day.

Still there's a positive side to this which is that I got all my chores and practice done early and am now on-line looking through my posts.

I feel my creative endeavours waning at the moment, maybe because of the gloomy day. I find that the weather does seem not only to affect my mood but also my energy levels. On a day like this I find it very easy to become apathetic and not want to move at all. Personally, I think it's a great shame that we didn't learn to hibernate earlier on in our evolution and give Winter a miss altogether. Think how nice it would be to wake refreshed in the Spring and celebrate the Equinox instead of the Winter Solstice. Lower fuel and food bills. We'd just stock up and then eat if we had to during the Winter months if it was necessary to do so. I think human evolution took a wrong turn in this respect . . .

Creative Endeavours

Between The Shadows… Your Singing Light…!!! :)))Image by Denis Collette...!!! via Flickr

After having a wonderful singing rehearsal last night, I felt tired and rather drained today. Of course the weather being grey and gloomy didn't exactly help this morning. Managed to get through all the latest chores and even visited B & Q for some gardening bits and bobs before I settled down in the afternoon.

Twittered and found some more information about freelance writing which was very useful but American and felt I wanted to know more about what was happening in this country. Found a wonderful site called h2g2 (after the famous Douglas Adams great work) which is for writers and writing. Was inspired to join and am optimistic of the possibilities from this.

Otherwise, we're back to good old Cornish winter weather, particularly now, wind and rain and plenty of it. Yesterday was like a burst of spring with sunshine and a little warmth. Oh well - only 2 months until the equinox and spring. It can't come too quickly for me. I'm not a winter person.

Still the weather does allow me to explore the internet. The only problem now is that my non-computer time seems to be shrinking more and more. Not that I mind, but some intrusions from real life can be such a bore . . .

BEIJING - JULY 31: Beijing residents practice...Image by Getty Images via Daylife

Today was a quieter day than yesterday but not without its interest. Did the usual shopping in the morning and then went to T'ai Chi this afternoon. This is a form of exercise that I really enjoy, more than yoga, which I also do. There is something very gentle and relaxing about it but it also takes time to learn.

I started last Spring and it has taken until now to learn all of the short form with weekly lessons (excluding holidays, some sickness and other interruptions). The hardest part of it is to learn the sequence of the form and the postures but when it flows more easily it is a wonderful experience. I originally became interested many many years ago when my partner and I learned it together from a book and practiced every day. Then I became pregnant, had high blood pressure and wasn't allowed to practice any more. By the time I had had my son and become accustomed to parenting in some small part, I had forgotten the sequence and didn't have the motivation to start again. So it was wonderful to be given the opportunity to learn it all again from the lovely woman who teaches it locally.

A Roland EXR-3 Arranger KeyboardImage via Wikipedia

Another new day dawns, foggily in this part of Cornwall. When it's like this I feel as if the fog gets into my brain and slows everything down . .yeuch. It even seems to affect my keyboard skills!

Still to continue. Today's a day with a lot of music - keyboard lesson in the morning, and then flute and keyboard practice in the afternoon. Choir rehearsal this evening. I quite enjoy doing all of this but it is a case of having the time, energy and focus to fit it all in.

Am determined to keep writing about what is happening in my life, every day if possible to get used to the schedule of doing it and allowing myself to be as spontaneous as brain and keyboard will allow. I long for the winter to be over. Already it seems to have gone one far too long and has been much colder than previous years even in mild Cornwall. Haven't felt like going for a walk for what seems like months because of the cold and the wind which seems such a shame when the scenery is so beautiful. Still lets hope for a warm sunny day soon.

Well the initial inspiration was good. Now I'm trying to get into the habit of writing everyday about what is happening in my life. Am still learning about blogging and tweeting and generally surfing the web for information. Feel slightly vulnerable at communicating like this on an essentially public site but I imagine that this will pass as I do it more and more. This public/private boundary is quite something, deciding what you feel safe sharing with other people you may never have met. What you feel safe putting 'out there' about yourself and always with the possibility that it may come back at unforeseen times.

Today I've been researching freelance writing. I definitely know that I want to write as well as do musical things but the how and what need defining somewhat. Need to get some idea of direction and the first steps to take. I've written before, published a poem or two but these have been one-off items and I want to do something more permanent this time and create a result that I can be proud of. Am also trying to be spontaneous in what I write. Have also decided to join a new choir.

New Starts

A new start...Image by Cieleke via Flickr

So,this is all new to me. Blogging. Had to ask for help from my partner to get started. But here goes. We'll see how it goes. It's supposed to help with the creative process which I really need about now and I understand it's fun as well. It's all a bit scary at the moment but exciting as well.I feel I'm finally joining the 21st century. About time!

My main interests are music - I sing and play a keyboard and flute which I really enjoy. I live in Cornwall and have a wish to be a writer. I love reading and have ideas, but apathy is often my problem.

So here's to a new start.
